Plant Enthusiast - Sales Assoc.
 

Job Description

We’re looking for knowledgeable, approachable sales associates to help guide and inspire our customers while maintaining the health, beauty, and quality of our plants. This role is ideal for someone who loves plants and people — someone who enjoys sharing knowledge, solving problems, and helping customers succeed in their gardens. You know that in order to make great sales, plants and products need to look their best. So, between customers, you have no problem watering, unloading racks, or cleaning what needs cleaning.  You’re self-motivated; you don't need someone checking up on you to make sure you're always being productive. You're not afraid to admit what you don't know or to ask other staff for help. You take pride in your work and have a passion for what you do. 

You'll be a trusted resource on the sales floor and play an important role in setting the standard for plant care, merchandising, and providing a great experience throughout the garden center, with our team and with our customers.  

Key Responsibilities:

  • Greets and welcomes customers

  • Ensure each customer receives outstanding customer service.

  • Your main priority is to assist customers with plant and product purchases and suggest add-on sales

  • Always provide the most up-to-date information on plants, plant care, problem-solving, and product use.

  • When you're not working in customer sales, assist with pricing, labeling, display, and maintenance of plants and related products. 

  • Merchandise plants to ensure displays are full, clean, and well-presented.

  • Assists with ordering and relaying requests to the team.

  • Support receiving and placement of new plant material.

  • Helps locate plants/products for customers.

  • Accurately and efficiently completes sales transactions and maintains proper accountability on the register.

  • Maintain plant health through proper watering, grooming, and monitoring. 

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the manager/lead.

  • Regular and reliable attendance; arriving as scheduled and ready for work.

  • Occasional cashier duties.

  • Must be available on Saturday and/or Sunday.

What We Are Looking For

  • Strong foundational knowledge of plants, gardening, and basic horticulture

  • Comfortable communicating with customers of all experience levels

  • Ability to explain plant care in clear, friendly, and practical terms

  • Observant, detail-oriented, and proactive about plant health

  • Physically able to work outdoors, on your feet, in all kinds of weather, lift up to 50 lbs.

  • Horticulture degree preferred; previous garden center, nursery, or landscape experience required

Essential Skills and Qualifications:

  • Ability to communicate with customers, other peers, and management.

  • Ability to function in a fast-paced environment and to multitask.

  • Ability to receive and address complaints and problems as they arise from customers.

  • Basic plant knowledge or the willingness to learn about plants and gardening.

  • Team-oriented and able to work under the direction of the Manager and/or Leads.

  • Follow all applicable safety rules and procedures.

Physical requirements:

  • The ability to lift 20lbs repeatedly for at least 4 hours.

  • Kneeling, crouching, and squatting.

  • Pushing or pulling objects.

  • Bending/stooping.
